As we start the new year, stokvels are starting with their contributions. They will most likely do what they have always done, go back to their bank and start with the process of saving for the next 12 months. This year, I invite stokvels to pause and ask the following questions;

1. What rate of interest are we earning as a stokvel when we save with the bank?
2. How much interest did we earn in 2025, put this in Rands?
3. Are you happy with the interest you earned?

Many stokvels loan their members and others money as a way of increasing their returns. They do this because they realise that the interest they earn from the banks is nothing. 4. Why do you continue to save your money? Why are you not investing it if you want to earn better returns?
5. The shorter your investment term, the less returns you earn
6. You have a higher chance of growing your wealth if you save for at least 3 to 5 years. Is your stokvel open to apportioning some of the contributions to periods longer than 12 months  for better returns?
7. Stokvels save money year in, year out. Why are members not getting any wealthier?
8. If your aim is to grow your money, why are you not getting a Financial Advisor who will help you achieve your objectives?
